Secret London Runs is an up-and-coming start-up in London organising running team challenges and tours to explore the capital's past. On the 8th March 2017, they are organising a Run for International Women's Day, with all profits going to Freedom from Fistula and the Bromley by Bow Centre.
Marking International Women's Day, #IWD2017, this run goes from Bow to Trafalgar Square, following the route of a march for women's suffrage on the same day in 1914. Runners will be set off in small teams, each with the name of an inspiring woman from history, and will run the 8km route together, completing a few challenges on the way.
At the end of the course, runners will receive their goodybags in a local pub where there will also be the opportunity to get involved in more fundraising initiatives for the partner charities. As well as a raffle with some hot prizes, Secret London Runs is organising a 'Knitter's Corner', knitting squares for Freedom from Fistula's big knit challenge. All Runners will be given free knitting lessons and then can buy all the equipment they need to join this initiative.
"Secret London Runs has attracted considerable press coverage recently, particularly from women and in respect of our gin tour," said Vanessa Cain, Founder & CEO of Secret London Runs. "Though gin is fabulous, I wanted to harness that interest and do something positive to help women both here and abroad. The work of Freedom from Fistula and the Bromley by Bow Centre is incredible and I couldn't be more delighted to be supporting them both."
