Making Life Worth Living

Take part in our Big Knit Challenge!

Help us to help them stitch their lives back together

Rehabilitation is an important part of the recovery process for our fistula patients.  To help women rebuild their lives after surgery, we offer a wide range of services and opportunities.  At one end of the spectrum, we teach basic literacy and numeracy skills, handicrafts and help to build confidence, and at the other end we offer enterprise training and loan/saving/insurance facilities.

As part of our handicrafts training, some of our patients stitch together knitted squares to make blankets.  This activity gives them something to do to fill their time as they recover and they also get the gift of a warm blanket to take home with them when they leave the hospital.

PLEASE NOTE:  We have been so overwhelmed with your fantastic donations that we no longer require any 'fish and chip' jumpers, or knitted teddies, dolls, or balls.  Please keep on knitting the 6" or 8" squares and baby jackets/cardigans from Prem Baby size up to 3 months size.   THANK YOU!  We are limited with storage space and currently are unable to accept other items.  If you have other items to donate, please consider www.knitforpeace.org.uk.

Please send your knitted donations to Freedom from Fistula, BIG KNIT CHALLENGE, Robertson House, 1 Whitefriars Crescent, Perth, PH2 0PA including a note of your name/organisation name.

How your money helps

Helping raise vital funds really does make a difference to the lives of women and girls in Africa and every little helps...

£2 can feed a woman in our care for a full day. We feed our patients 3 healthy and wholesome meals a day, designed to help them build their strength and provide them with the right nutrients

£10 can pay for a new outfit for one of our former patients for their celebratory leaving ceremony

£30 can pay for a safe birth in the maternity ward at Aberdeen Women’s Centre in Sierra Leone.

£50 can pay for a fistula patient’s education during their stay at our facilities. Many of these women and girls have no literacy or numeracy skills so this invaluable training can empower and change lives, and help our patients to create their own future.

£200 can purchase an income generating solar station. This alone can help to empower our patients and provide them with an income to support themselves and their families upon their return to their communities.

£1,000 can pay for life changing fistula care. Many of our patients stay with us for extended periods of time (up to 8 or 9 months in some cases) and this amount pays for their surgery, as well as their rehabilitation, and helps us to reintegrate them back into their communities.
